Abstract

Women scoring above threshold on a measure of intimate partner psychological abuse at the 20 week (phase 1) assessment were invited to take part in our intensive subsample along with a random sample of women scoring below threshold on this measure. 341 consented to take part. Detailed interview and questionnaire data was collected to assess a wide range of psychological and social variables. Broad domains of measurement include; personality functioning, mental health, social support, partner violence and emotional abuse, feelings and attitudes towards the baby, feeding intentions, expectations regarding motherhood and infant. Some experimental measures were completed e.g. Ekman faces for assessment of maternal emotion recognition. Biological samples - maternal diurnal cortisol.
