Initial Interview

The target population was all women living in Southampton and neighbouring areas aged 20-34 years and not pregnant at the time of recruitment. Women were recruited through their GPs, as well as at local events in Southampton. Research nurses visited the women in their homes and conducted an interview, obtained anthropometry measurements and mouth wash samples for genetic analysis. Subsequently, those who were willing provided a blood sample either at their GP surgery or at home.
