The survey content was strongly focused on educational experiences, but was also broadened, to reflect the age of the cohort member, to include early labour market experiences and economic circumstances, as well as aspects of family formation, risky-, crime- and anti-social behaviours, health and wellbeing. Wherever possible, interviewers were assigned to the same households they had interviewed at Sweep 3.
Of the 12,468 young people issued from the main sample at sweep 4, the survey reached 11,449 households (92%) in England. Of the 600 young people issued to the boost sample at sweep 4, the survey reached a total of 352 interviews (59%).
